Scientific Background: FGFR4 is a protein-tyrosine kinase of the TK group and FGFR family. It is a receptor kinase that is involved in recognizing fibroblast growth factors to control cell migration, differentiation, proliferation, and regulating lipid metabolism. It is activated by binding of fibroblast growth factor (FGF), which induces dimerization and autophosphorylation. Interaction with PLCG1 with FGFR4 is mediated through autophosphorylation of Y754. FGFR4 may be an oncoprotein (OP). Defects in FGFR4 have been linked to alveolar rhabdomyosarcomas (ARMS), breast fibroadenomas, gliomatosis cerebri, and anaplastic astrocytomas.
