Scientific Background: PKD3 (PRKD3, PKC-nu and PKCv) is a protein-serine/threonine kinase of the CAMK group and PKD family. This kinase is highly expressed and widely distributed in most tested human tissues except in the brain and spinal cord where it is poorly expressed. PKD3 is activated by DAG and phorbol esters, which mediates translocation to the cell membrane. PKD3 is also activated by phosphorylation at S731 and S735. PKD3 has been linked with the development of glioblastoma multiforme (GM). Mutations of the PKD3 gene were detected in some cases of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It can also sensitize the effects of Raf kinase inhibitors in melanoma cells. It may be involve in the metastasis of lung cancer and contribute to prostate cancer cell growth.
